Systemic Psychotherapy is suitable for a wide range of difficulties and relationship problems. It helps people understand themselves in the context of their close relationships and the wider community, enabling people to understand each other’s experiences and views, appreciate each other’s needs, build on strengths and make useful changes.
Relationship difficulties: unhelpful relationship patterns, family conflict, couple disharmony, parenting difficulties, sibling rivalry, friendship strains, work problems
Life and Family transitions: loss and bereavement, birth of a child, couple separation or divorce, new family formations, accommodation moves
Intense and difficult emotions or experiences: sadness, anger, bullying, discrimination, aggression, addictions, self-harm, depression, anxiety, trauma, attachment issues
Issues around identity: including race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, gender, faith, religion, parenthood, marital status, appearance, aging, ability/disability, education
Serious mental health problems or life-long conditions: eating disorders, psychosis, learning difficulties, ADHD, autism, living with a physical illness
Please have a chat with me to see if we can work together. Often it is the “fit” between the therapist and client that is the most important factor.
Family is used to describe any group of people who care about each other and not just those who are related by birth.
I also use other approaches, adopting ideas from cognitive and dialectical behaviour therapy, attachment narrative therapy, non-violent resistance, emotionally focused therapy and others that I feel may offer a useful way of understanding a particular issue.
Deciding to have therapy may seem like a difficult step to take, especially if you have never had counselling or psychotherapy before.
If you are unsure whether this is the right approach for you, I am happy to have a free 15-minute telephone consultation to discuss your situation.
